Curriculum
The Key Learning Domains
Ringwood North Primary School provides a seven year curriculum in the learning domains of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS), the key Domains being English, Mathematics, Science, The Humanities-Economics, Geography and History, Communication; Design, Creativity and Technology; Languages Other Than English (Indonesian); Thinking Process and Physical,Personal and Social Learning. (Interpersonal Development). Teaching and Learning programs cater for extension opportunities for all highly able students and supports those students requiring further assistance in English and Mathematics.
During Education Week in May 2006 it was announced that Ringwood North had won the Victorian Excellence Award for Curriculum Innovation. The innovative curriculum being developed focuses upon enhancing the engagement of students in their learning in the Middle Years (Years 5 and 6) through ICT (Information and Communications Technology), The Media and The Arts. During 2008 in excess of one hundred and twenty students produced Short Films that were shown on the "big screen" at the Hoyts Cinema Multiplex in the Eastland Shopping Centre in early December. The standard of the films was exemplary. As part of the Excellence Award, the school won $20,000 which was used to further enhance our program and further challenge student creative endeavour. By the end of Semester 1 2009 our school will be introducing our Learning Management System which will enhance school-home-school communication across a wide range of school operations, most notably in student achievement and curriculum learning modules.

- CLASSROOM MUSIC;
- ART/CRAFT;
- PHYSICAL EDUCATION;
- INVOLVEMENT IN INTER SCHOOL SPORT FOR YEARS 5 and 6;
- INDONESIAN;
- INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (Optional): Tuition in strings; brass; woodwind; keyboard; guitar at very reasonable rates during the school day.
These programs are highly valued components of the curriculum. Ringwood North Primary School has trainee teachers working in the school at various times throughout the school year. The school has links with the Monash and Deakin Universities and the Faculty of Education at RMIT.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION
The Outdoor Education Program is a whole school developmental program which provides children with the opportunity to participate in activities outside the classroom. It includes a school wide, camping program and year level excursions.
The camping program is as follows:
Prep Breakfast at school
Year 1 Dinner at school
Year 2 One night sleep over
Year 3 3 Day/2 Night Base camp - Wandin (Gundiwindi)
Year 4 3 Day/2 Night Base Camp - Phillip Island
Year 5 4 Day/3 Night Base camp - Beechworth
Year 6 2 Day Marine Studies Camp - Phillip Island (Term 2)
5 Day Tour -Canberra (Term 4)
Excursions are organised throughout the year by class teachers.
Please be aware School Council has determined, as policy, that if your child has been sick during the previous 24 hours before camp departure a doctor’s certificate is required on the morning of departure or they are not to attend.
Where viable the Swimming Program involves students from Prep to Grade 2. Lessons are either held daily over a two-week period or weekly over a ten-week period. However, this program is expensive and will only be provided with sufficient interest that meets all costs.
