Message from the Principal

Principal  Ringwood North Primary School offers curriculum programs that enable all students to find challenge, stimulation and enthusiasm in learning. Our aim is to constantly strive to improve the learning outcomes for students in an atmosphere that is caring and supportive and in which successes are shared and celebrated.  During Education Week, 2006, Ringwood North Primary School was announced as the winner of the Victorian Education Excellence Award for Curriculum Innovation. This achievement recognised state-wide the outstanding and innovative Middle Years program operating at this school for all Year 5 and Year 6 students. The award has been wonderful recognition for our school and is testament to the innovative work being done here.Prize money associated with the award was $20,000 which will be spent to further extend the innovative program. Programming in this area of the school focuses on engaging all students in projects that are challenging and offer significant scope for creative endeavour to bring about enhanced engagement in the schooling. We are happy to speak to all regarding our innovative work. Opportunities in extension programs are provided for high achievers in all classrooms across the school. Other offerings include 'Tournament of Minds' and G.A.T.E.W.A.Y.S. Literacy / Numeracy support for students with gaps in their learning is also a priority program through Reading Recovery at Year 1, the Victorian Early Years programming and "Big on Books" in Years 5 and 6.

Ringwood North Primary School is proud of its Performing Arts and Creative Arts programs and the many successes of sporting teams in District, Zone and State finals. In 2005 a leading teacher was appointed to manage the school's Innovation and Excellence program. During 2005 students in the Middle Years (5 and 6) worked in "across year level teams" to create 19 short films. These films were shown in the Hoyts Eastland Theatre Complex on November 30th. A two-set DVD package of all films and trailers made was presented to each student after the showing. This concept is a first for a primary school and represents the excellence that can be achieved when students are fully engaged in their learning. The initiative is continuing with  increasing diversity and experimentation.

All children receive instruction in classroom music and have the opportunity to join the school choir, participate in the Instrumental Music program, join the school band or join one of several performance ensembles.Instrumental lessons are held during the school day by a team of highly able musicians at very affordable cost. The school stages its musical productions every two years. In 1995 'The Wizard of Oz'; in 1997 'Peter Pan'; in 1999'Cinderella';in 2001 'Pinocchio' and in 2003 "Snow White" was presented at the Mahon Theatre, Aquinas College over 4 nights. Our sixth production "Aladdin and his Wonderful Magical Lamp" was staged in August 2005. "Wonder in Aliceland" was ppresented over four nights in August 2007. In 2009 'Wind in the Willows' will be staged in early August. Our Performing Arts program is especially noteworthy and offers children the excitement and discipline of learning a musical instrument as well as opportunities to perform in public. The school choir enters eistedfodds and has had many successes. In 1993 the choir was selected as one of three choirs to form the chorus for the Melbourne production of "Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat". Our choir has been successful in competition at various eisteddfods around Melbourne, and in 2006 won the choral sectionof the prestigeous Waverley Eisteddfod. Students participate in a wide range of interschool sporting competition from Year 5. In 2007 the girls' Bat Tennis Team reached the state finals playoffs coming a creditable 4th out of 8 teams and last year  (2008) the boys basketball team played off in the state semifinals. Individual students have reach state selection in football and in athletics.

The school's academic results at state level through the AIM assessment and more recently NAPLAN  demonstrate that students consistently perform at high levels of achievement.
